Description

What is Esomeprazole GR 20mg?

Esomeprazole GR 20mg is a gastro-resistant tablet used to treat acid-related stomach and esophagus problems such as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), stomach ulcers, and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. It belongs to a class of drugs called proton pump inhibitors (PPIs). The gastro-resistant (GR) formulation ensures that the medication reaches the intestines before dissolving, protecting it from stomach acid and aiding in proper absorption.

How Does it Work?

Esomeprazole works by specifically targeting and blocking the proton pumps in the stomach lining, which are responsible for acid production. By inhibiting these pumps, it reduces the production of stomach acid, allowing damaged tissue in the stomach and esophagus to heal. It also helps in preventing new ulcers from forming, providing effective relief from symptoms like heartburn, acid regurgitation, and difficulty swallowing. The reduced acidity also creates an unfavorable environment for Helicobacter pylori bacteria, aiding in the treatment of infections when used in combination with antibiotics.
